Further to the announcement dated 27 October 2009, the Board of Directors of QL Resources Berhad is pleased to announce that its subsidiary namely QL Palm Pellet Sdn. Bhd.(QLPP) has completed its pre-commercialisation stage of the project funded by Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Technofund. The completion enables QL Resources Berhad to begin commercialising the first EFB treatment and pelletizing plant of 40,000 MT annual production capacity within its palm oil mill in Tawau, Sabah. The commercial plant will be developed as an integral part of the group’s initiative to achieve sustainable, zero-waste palm oil milling. It is also part of QL’s broader effort to develop palm biomass renewable energy business in Malaysia and Indonesia. The zero-waste renewable energy (RE) concept maximizes the energy generation from palm oil mills through palm oil mill effluent (POME) biogas power generation, palm biomass pelletizing, as well as mill energy efficiency upgrades. The first zero-waste renewable energy project will start commissioning by end of 2010.
